Dove Shoot and BBQ

Hello Fellow Hunters,

Hunting is upon us and we are getting our gear ready.  We hope that you have a great time this year with your family and friends.  Please take time to introduce the youths to the woods and share with them the wonderful experience that the outdoors brings.

We hope to see everyone at our Annual Dove Shoot on opening day (Saturday September 4th) this year.  We always have a blast and it is a great way to start the season.  The birds are looking good and you will not be able to beat the food.  Anyone you bring can become a member of GA SCI for free with their paid shoot.

GA SCI is proud to sponsor the Pulling for the Kids Sporting Clays tournament at Blalock Lakes in Newnan, GA on September 23rd.  The tournament will benefit the children of the Marcus Autism Center.  This falls right in line with the humanitarian mission of GA SCI and will also help more people become aware of the great work our chapter does in the community.  We hope to see you there.

We are very excited about rolling out our new website in the following weeks.  There will be many additions like our new blog and classifieds section.  You will be able to interact with fellow hunters and buy/sell your gear.

I am looking forward to a great season and wish the best of luck to you all.

Keep the crosshairs on the mission ahead.

Best Regards,

Jim Freeman
President - GA SCI

Dove ShootAnnual Opening Day Dove Shoot and BBQ

Folks this is a dove shoot you do not want to miss.  We have the pleasure of having the hunt at beautiful Freedom Farms in Chatsworth, GA on September 4th, 2010.  In case you have missed it before, Freedom Farms is a gorgeous property located in the rolling hills of North Georgia just an hour from Atlanta.  From the picturesque scenery to the hundreds of dove flying in, this is a can't miss shoot.  Apple Orchards throughout the property and the food plots make for some great times and good hunting stories to tell later.  There will be a Wild Game and Whole Hog BBQ starting at 1 pm and the dove shoot to follow.  Bring your own ATV's or catch a ride into the field with us.  All hunting will be over food plots and there will be a minimum of 100 yards between stands to assure a safe and pleasurable time for all.

One child under 18 can hunt from the same stand as a paying adult for free.  New Members may join us for a donation of $125 including the dove shoot, membership in GA SCI, BBQ and one raffle ticket.  Current members are only $50 including the shoot, BBQ and one raffle ticket.  For non-shooters lunch is only $20 per person.  SCI National Members can add a chapter membership for $35 per person.  All new members and their sponsor will receive a free ticket for the GUN RAFFLE.  There will be over $3000 in prizes to give away.  NO ALCOHOL before or during the shoot.

Marjery Parkes HospitalSafariCare Program-Marjery Parkes Hospital

Greg and Julie Schubert just came back from Africa and through the GA SCI SafariCare program they were able to send toys and essentials to the Marjery Parkes TB Hospital in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape.  Below is a note from the hospital to Julie.

Dear Julie,

I was at the hospital today to pass on your wonderful donation.  I only wish that you had been there as well Julie.  The excitement and joy in those little faces is difficult to describe in mere words.  There were all so grateful and thrilled with their toys.

One little boy was a little old for stuffed toys and when I last saw him, he was proudly clutching one of the books, a toothbrush and toothpaste with a big grin on his face.

The little girl in pink is Kelly Grootboom who I was told was "half dead" when she was admitted.  This child is the most darling little girl.  She is 6 years old and absolutely bursting personality.  I almost brought her home with me!!!!  She originally took a teddy bear, but when she spotted the lion, her face lit up and she swapped.  He was immediately named Simba.

So once again, thank you so much for your generosity.  You can be very sure that you have improved the lives of many impoverished children who are either patients or out patients at the Marjery Parkes TB Hospital in Graaff-Reinet.

Warm Regards,

Jenny
